Working out great May 07, 2011
By VZ I purchased this for my 5 year old who we haven't sought a diagnosis for, but who exhibits the symptoms of ADHD and various sensory issues.
She enjoyed the toy right away, and has not wanted to put it down since she received it about 8 hours ago. She has been able to bite, scratch, and tap it, and rub it on her mouth, which is exactly what I was hoping she would do with it, since these are the types of things she usually does to walls, counters, books, windowsills, appliances.... you get the idea, everything that is within her reach. She also has been kind of "absent-mindedly" waving it back annd forth when I am talking to her, but she seems to be more focused when I am talking to her, so this is great.
I'm excited to take it to the store with us to see if it will keep her occupied enough to keep her hands and mouth off the shelves and conveyor belt. haha
I also showed her how to measure things with the ruler, which she doesn't quite understand, but she is having fun trying.
Unexpectedly, she has been doing some imagination play with the ruler as well. Pretending it is a bracelet, necklace, belt, and even a snake. She is usually almost trapped in reality and has trouble with imagination play, so this is pretty exciting.
I've also been helping her count the bumps and lines on the various texture patterns.
Physically, it is a sturdy, flexible, 12 inch ruler with various textures, as described. The price seemed somewhat steep to me at first, but I've not seen another product exactly like it, and it is being used/ working exactly how I had hoped. I hope it will work well for her when she starts school in a few months also.

Sensory outlet Jun 20, 2011
By R. Degarmo

This desk buddy looks exactly like and can be used as a standard desk ruler. Its rubber material helps it grip to desktop or inside a desk. It can be used quietly to engage in sensory activities without distracting others and there is no need to explain what it is as it looks and functions like a standard ruler. The teacher is happy that this can be utilized quietly to occupy the energy outlet in groups or in class without distracting others. This would be great for an IEP or 504 plan.

Great stealth fidget for SPD kids at school Feb 03, 2011
By Jen K. The Desk Buddy really does look like a ruler, and it is covered with different textured areas. My boys took to them immediately and were able to sit still through story time at home using them. They go to school tomorrow, and I will be ordering more.

Perfect! May 03, 2011
By Momoftwo My child keeps this on his desk and it works wonders for his chewing issues in the classroom. The teacher is thrilled that he isn't distracted or chewing pencils and notebooks anymore.
