I couldn’t put this book down! It’s a heart-wrenching story but one that gives hope through the many examples of how the author persevered and never gave up trying to hold her family together. If there is Bipolar 1 disorder in your family, you have to get this book! --Jon Goodspeed, Editorial Director, North Atlantic Books
I JUST WANT MY DAUGHTER BACK is a powerful narrative of a mother who lives with the turmoil of having a child with Bipolar 1- and the wide range of emotions that consume her and her family as this illness takes over. Through trial and error, both mother and daughter discover how determination and love in spite of a surprising twist in the road; can give way to a hopeful new beginning. Families suffering through the effects of mental illness quickly find themselves identifying with the writer’s experiences, as they discover ways they, too, can come to terms with Bipolar 1.

Too distracting to enjoy reading it Jan 20, 2011
By Ken Smith I know this book is about a difficult and personal topic - I have an adult BPD child myself. I also realize it was basically lifted from the author's daily journal verbatim in order to make it a more intimate story, and I can tolerate the homespun philosophy, however cliche it is. I bought it because I heard the author interviewed on the radio and thought the book might be worthwhile. But come on, it's still a book I paid for. At least in the Kindle version, every single page is so riddled with errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax, I was mostly too distracted by the mistakes to read the words. I scanned through page after page, just looking for key words, to avoid all the sloppy writing. Someone should have at least edited the thing so it would not be so frustrating.
