 Better than the book itself, by far Feb 18, 2011

I'm not really a huge fan of the CitH story, per se.
As with most Seuss books, its outstanding poetic traits are offset somewhat by the message or the characters.
His characters are often a bit mean to each other. And, seriously, why are these kids at home alone?
It's just a fictional story, I know.
Anyway, this TAG version adds a lot to the story.
This book has several games that test reading comprehension, encourage quick thinking, and some basic observational concepts.
My 4-yr-old loves playing the games to see how fast he can answer the questions.
The audio performance is also very good.
We've haven't had any issues with the pen not working.
I can't comment on uploading additional books, though.
This is our first TAG book.

The story itself is great, of course. As a TAG book, though, it is a bit lacking in the quizzes and games. Not too much to do except read the book.

My girls love to watch the cat in the hat on PBS. I got them the tag system with this book, OMG, they listen to it ALL THE TIME. I have a few complaints about the tag system (like that every time you turn the thing on it reminds them they have rewards online, and I don't want to have to keep hooking the darn thing up to the computer!), but that isn't so much aimed at this book as it is at the tag system. A good book to add if you have a tag reader and your kid likes the cat in the hat.

I don't review a lot of things online - actually don't know I ever have but this book has been amazing. My friend bought it for my daughter (2). My daughter talks endlessly and "reads" books to people quite often. We spend an hour and a half (each way) on a commuter train each day and we spend most of that time with books and saying, "hi" to other passengers of course. This book has added to the fun. She is an "I can do it Mommy!" girl so this book lets her do it. It is also teaching her what words are and how they go together to make a story. No, she can't read, or even close to it, but she does do the games and quizzes and rarely misses a question. She loves it. You can touch each word and it will say it to you, you can touch a symbol on each page and it will read one page at a time, or you can push the play button and it plays the whole book.
We rarely make it through the whole book all at once. She enjoys touching the different pictures on the page and listening to their sounds or what they say. I have not tried the Tag Jr even though age wise that would be the correct one for my daughter; the friend (a certified teacher) thought this would be best because my daughter is so advanced. She knows her colors, can count to 10 and knows her shapes too. Other children her age do not do as much so I don't know it would be the correct book for all kids her age.
My only negative comment would be that there are not enough books. She loves Curious George and Thomas and Friends and while Tag Jr has those books they seem too simplistic for her. Would love to see some of those titles for the Tag.
Another review mentioned that she had to download something from a computer - mine came as a set - the tag device and the book so the book was already loaded. It does have a nice resource for evaluating your child's progress online. I was real happy to see that - it told me what of the questions she had answered and how accurate she was with her answers. I could see if you buy more books you do need to go online and download the book onto the unit. It also only holds about 10 books (according to the product) so if you are looking for something where you can load endless books this may not be for you.
