Although this is recommended for special needs kids, it works great for normal developing children. Most kids are more visual and with this timer, they complain a lot less. when it beeps, they know its time to clean up or go to bed etc etc and they don't put up a fuss as is w/o a time timer. The only complaint I have is, this is a really really simple clock w/ no features. Why does it cost over $30?

I love this clock. My children know exactly how much more time they have. The little alarm bell did stop working shortly after getting it. And, it was so quiet you couldn't hear it unless you were right by it. However, that's not why I bought it. I love it as a way for the kids to see the time left.
 Broke almost immediately--very light and flimsy May 22, 2010
This product is so light that as soon as I took it out of the box I had the feeling that it would not last, and I was right. I had heard rave reviews from a number of local parents and for the brief time it worked it was wonderful, but it broke after about two weeks of use (and we were VERY careful). Then I put it aside, and then suddenly it was two months later and I couldn't reach the seller, and Christmas was upon us.... You can guess the rest. I just now finally, sadly, threw it out. It is really a shame, because it is a wonderful concept and it was really helpful for my son to have such a clear demonstration of time passing. If they were to make it sturdier and if I could hold it in my hands before purchase I would buy it again.

Ordering this timer online was risky, not seeing it in person, but I ended up liking it. I love the fact that my classroom of kids can see time running down from a distance, which was my goal. This size (8 inch) was good enough and I did not need the 12 inch. I was looking for an overhead timer so everyone could see, but I didn't want to leave the overhead on for lengths of time. It does the job that I wanted it to do. Some disadvantages: the audio alert is only one small beep, which most of the time no one notices. The face is also very flimsy, so I tell my kids they cannot touch it. Last, you really have no way of knowing whether the battery is still working or not as nothing moves or sounds until time runs down. Overall, i'm glad I did buy it, but wish they could make those few important changes.

The timer works like it should however, I wish it had the option to make the audible alarm louder. I understand the purpose of the low tone for certain children, but I really need a louder audible alarm. The one it has, is useless. Overall though, the timer serves it's purpose. My children quickly understood it's purpose and so far, abide by it very well at bed time. The large display is unmistakable. It's very very easy to use. I think the price is too much but it's the only type of its kind so I had no choice. Like I said, it works but I can see where this product could be greatly improved.
