I Almost Died and this made me want to live. May 25, 2009
By sparkofhope I have been watching for this book to come out for years. I used it during my recovery from depression and a near death suicide attempt after my wife's death. I am now a recovering alcholic and I had many losses because of my drinking too. I was in Dr. Sheets class and she gave out copies of this book. You ought to read it even if you have read every other book like it. She has a way of saying things that really gets you to thinking. I deeply began to look at my life and the choices I made. I realized most of my problems came from the consecuences of my destructive coping behaviors. I read most of the book, did most of the worksheets, I began thinking about life diffrently and I decided to focus on living life instead of killing myself. I still think about emotional mind, rational mind, and wise mind and being Mindful and talking through the moment. I still sit down and do the Wise Mind worksheet to think through my problem and to decide how to deal with them. I hope you will read it. It might be what changes your life to. The whole class loved her. She is one of the nicest and caring people I have met and she is a great teacher.

Great DBT work! Jan 23, 2010
By K. D. Thompson I have used Dr. Sheets' "take" on DBT skills often with my own psychotherapy patients, and found her way of explaining things so clear and down-to-earth. I don't have to worry about my patients' having college-level reading skills to understand the workbook, and believe me, with dialectical behavior therapy, that is quite an accomplishment! I highly recommend this book for your own personal journey, or for your consideration if you are a mental health professional working with people whose behaviors are truly out-of-control.

Great Workbook - Masterfully Developed - A Must Have for Clinicians Jan 07, 2010
By Behavioral Health Professional Great workbook - one of a kind - clearly developed and written by a master of the subject matter. This is a must have for anyone working in the behavioral health profession, particularly those counseling difficult clients. There are lessons, exercises, and reproducible worksheets galore. I plan to purchase several for my staff as well as encouraging my colleagues to obtain it.

Out of Control is HUGE! Jun 08, 2010
By Alisa E. Clark
"Alisa E. Clark"
I am in the process of working through Dr. Melanie Gordon Sheets, Ph.D.'s book Out of Control, and it is working! I am overwhelmed (in a good way) by the volume of practical, common sense explanations, worksheets, suggestions, definitions and life applications that weave throughout the 421 pages. I could choose to work this book in one month or I could spend a year or more sifting through all the life changing exercises, suggestions and encouragements. The book is HUGE in its content as well as in its purpose. You won't run out of ways to heal, change and grow with Out of Control. Melanie is clearly a woman who loves people and wants to help them heal: it is evident from the first page to the last, and everywhere in between. If you need to get your life back in control order Out of Control! It's a book that will make HUGE differences in you and your life. By Alisa E. Clark, Author of Dancing in the Doghouse
