Practical Strategies for Elementary School Inclusion Jul 03, 2006
By Brook Erin Wolfsdorf This book really helped me with inclusion. Dr. Stride presents hands-on help for both novice and veteran teachers. I appreciated that she spoke of real-life hurdles and doesn't leave you hanging but offers practical and pro-active solutions. She helped me consider new ways to view team selection, classroom management, tiered instruction, alternative assessment and especially the thorny make it or break it aspect of inclusion. Try it, you'll like it!
Excellent Inclusion Resource Jul 24, 2006
By Janet A. Heaney Practical Strategies for Elementary School Inclusion is an excellent and very readable resource for both general ed and special ed teachers. It is filled with helpful information written in a positive and motivational format, yet it is also realistic and contains up to date information, resources, and tried and true techniques. I have been an elementary general ed teacher for 18 years and have become somewhat familiar with the implications of the NCLB only through my own investigations and trial and error. My school district in particular, and others in general, have not provided the training necessary for the successful implementation of the inclusion program in the elementary schools. This book is a wonderful resource for managing a classroom of diverse students. I mentored a brand new teacher last year who will now have an inclusion class this year. I plan to give this book to him, and I am sure that it will help him immeasurably to plan and implement a successful program. Thank you, June Stride, for a great resource.
Practical Strategies is essential reading. Jul 05, 2006
By Michael Young Practical Strategies is peppered with surveys and evaluative tools that helped me identify areas of personal and district strength as well as admitting areas needing growth. I particularly appreciated Dr. Stride's proactive stance and solutions to many of the inclusion issues we invariably inherit. Dr. Stride sets the stage for the inclusion experience by proposing an inclusion/mainstream marriage contract. The reading is easy and interspersed with special eduction cartoons as Dr. Stride invites us to laugh at oursleves along the way.
