good reference for Inclusion Jun 10, 2009
By Subway I am a middle school special education teacher. We are using this book as a guide to help begin Inclusion for our students. It explains the process, gives good examples of modifications, and explains where the struggles might occur. Well written.

Practical strategies for middle school inclusion Feb 03, 2004
By Luther P Christman Ph.D.,R.N. This text has as its central focus the inclusion of special education students into the regular class a desirable practicality. This is done as a facsimile of the real world where the population is composed of all ranges of competency as well as all races, religions, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds yet must try to be cohesive and have a positive forward thrust in a never stopping way. The sharing of educational instruction is one way to learn how to be harmonious in this wide ranging setting. School is more than basic education it is a useful means of making democracy a successful way of life. The nine chapters each focus on an agent of cooperative relationships that will make for contentment and ability to be constructive when each student becomes an adult. It sets the stage for the school system to be a very strong factor in creating useful careers according to the basic competence of each student. Just as no two citizens in society have identical skills and potentials so is the case for every student no matter what the size or location of the school. The integration fosters learning from each other as well as from the teachers so the growing edge becomes more fully developed open to steady learning over a lifetime no matter what the individual setting for each ultimately becomes each person's reality.Through coteaching the students can observe and internalize how competencies and individual trails can be productive and stimulating to the growth of all. This is basic to the democratic society and its stability so that everyone may have a career according to what talents are present. The human as well as the structural aspects of life are fostered in a productive way.submission typist: Terri R Corder Lukonen
