Wonderful educational (and fun!) toy!! Sep 08, 2009
By Hilary P I have twin boys who both get speech therapy. I saw this product and watched the youtube video about it and knew I had to have it. It's even better than I thought it would be. I used to hold up various objects and have my boys repeat after me what the object was or have them tell me the object, but they would be wandering around the room and barely paying attention. With this great u-shape mat, all the cards are placed under plastic in the mat (so no card ripping!) and then I can really engage with my boys (one at a time, of course) while they have all the cards right around them. I don't need to fumble around for different toys and cards to show them. Also, there are instructions for various exercises to help with speech and generally just to engage with your child (even if he or she doesn't need speech). Great way to play with your child!
The cards are beautifully illustrated! Lots of vivid colors to attract your child's attention. And the shape of the mat is terrific so that I can sit on one side and my child on the other, yet we're not sitting on top of the play space. Really great design.
I bought the starter set with only a few cards, but definitely will be upgrading to the professional set soon. I can't wait to show it to my boys' speech therapist this week. I'm sure she is going to love it too!

U Play Mat for 18 month toddler Feb 07, 2010
By Naya's Mom I purchased this product because my daughter only speaks 5 words plainly and clearly. The rest of her vocabulary consist of baby gibberish. Her pediatrician refused to write a referral for speech therapy because he said that she was just fine and on track for development, but I disagreed. I didn't want to get sucked into the Your Baby Can Read program because I really don't want her watching DVD's. Therefore, I'm being more proactive and doing speech therapy myself. The shape of the mat is great. My child will interact with me and look at the cards and point to the correct ones. Its great b/c the cards stay put and no more running off taking the cards everywhere in the house. She has other flash cards that we were using and she ran off while we were going over the foods cards. She brought back her ABC cards and put them in the extra pockets and pointed at the apple card she had and the one that was already there. I was like EUREKA! We just a AHA moment. I praised her and she clapped her hands and gave me a big hug. She tried to pronounce the words and that was a huge improvement. I will not be purchasing the other card decks because the $2.00 cards that I purchased before hand fit nicely into the pockets and the Baby Einstein cards do also.Alphabet Flash Cards I can even get the parts of the body deck of cards from the school supply store I will write another review at 24 months and tell you how successful this program has been.
Dad Of Two Year Old With Speech Delay May 07, 2010
By Dad! I truly have to compliment this product wherever I see it - I bought this for my son and it is by far the best educational product on the market for language development. The shape is BRILLIANT and my son instantly knows what to do. The book is well written and the exercises are terrific. I strongly suggest this product for anyone with a young child, especially when there is any concern for speech & language delay.

Is not working for us.. Jun 09, 2010
By Melinda I've only had this product for about a week, so maybe my little man will grow into it. He's 20 months old right now, and I was really hoping to help him with his speech delay using this. However, he instantly started pulling the cards out of the plastic pockets. The cards are nice but not very heavy duty, and he quickly mangled the couple he grabbed. Plus, he already ripped the seams of one of the plastic pockets.
It does seem like a really nice teaching tool. The shape of the mat is great, and the storage bag is perfect. It's just not working out well for us.
Anyway, I plan on putting this away for another month and trying again. If I find better success in the future, I'll update this review.
