Not really as described Apr 24, 2010
By JD Although very well made, the Rainbow Sound Blocks are rattles. Describing them as having different "tones" was misleading, as I interpreted that as something more musical, not just the sounds of various-sized little beads shaking around. It seems to me to be more appropriate for younger children (babies) just picking up their first blocks and rattles, not really that stimulating or educational. The idea of creating different color combinations as you look through two blocks together was great, but most of the color combinations didn't actually come through, i.e., looking through a red block together with a yellow block still looked red, blue and red together didn't create purple, etc. Since the beautiful wooden "box" the blocks come in doesn't have sides, it can never be used for anything except storing these blocks, which for most people probably won't happen very often. For me, this was an expensive rattle toy; had I seen this in a store, I never would have purchased it.

Not great Dec 14, 2010
By Rachel

I bought these for my 1 year old and for my 3 1/2 year old. The colors of the blocks are not bright like shown. Maybe in front of a bright window in the dead of summer but in a normal lit room they are all dark and hazy looking. It's hard to see the beads and the sound they make are not unique or musical.
The box they come in is wasted and just a source of confusion and annoyance to my children who really want to put the blocks inside. The front and back is open so the blocks just fall out as they try to place them in. Plexy glass or another hard plastic (like the blocks themselves!) would have made a lot of sense for the sides of the box.
A really great idea just needs some tweaking.

Mr. Mom Jul 16, 2009
By Mr. Mom My 2 year old absolutely loves this! She is so entertained by the different sounds each block makes and the different colors she can make when holding 2 blocks together. She cracks up every time she rolls the round blocks across the floor too! Highly recommend!

AWESOME!!!! Nov 08, 2010
By Angie This toy is great!!! It teaches different shapes, colors, and sounds! My 3 year old daughter looks through the blocks to see in different color. She also shakes them listening to the different sounds! She's also able to stack them. They are very durable as she sometimes likes to throw them around the living room. She loves it, I love it! Definitely worth the money!

Very Cool Blocks Jan 17, 2011
By hepaticajen Got these blocks for our 10 month old for Christmas. He loved them from the start. The beads inside make different noises and the blocks have a pleasing feel. Just the right size for grasping. And throwing! Others have complained about the box, but I think it's cool. We've had these nearly a month, and he hasn't figured it out yet. He loves to open and close the top (and everything else) and touch the blocks inside. Sometimes he can manage to dump the blocks or push them out with his finger. It makes his brain work to try and figure it out (does frustrate him a bit, but that pushes him to learn). Will be so neat when he does. I like putting the blocks back in different orders so the pattern changes. Feels sorta art deco to me. When he gets older and has more blocks to build with, I'm thinking these will become windows.
